Southern Hills’
Child and Adolescent Services are designed to help families’ lives work better
by relieving psychological distress and assisting each individual within the
family to reach and maintain their optimal level of functioning. Child and
Adolescent Services consists of outpatient services to families with children
under 18.
Services in the Child and Adolescent program include assessments, individual
therapy, group therapy, family therapy, collateral therapy, psychological
testing, consultation, emergency services, case management services, psychiatric
assessment, medication monitoring, and psycho-educational services. Southern
Hills provides after-school programs throughout the five counties as well as
summer day treatment programs. These programs focus on the development of
problem-solving skills, daily living skills, bully prevention, social skills,
and substance abuse prevention. All services are provided by personnel approved
by Southern Hills to treat children and adolescents.
Admission to Children and Adolescent Services is based on the same admission
criteria as for other outpatient services. The Child and Adolescent program does
not exclude children or adolescents from services solely on the basis of their
juvenile justice status.
Upon intake, the therapist is responsible for completing and documenting an
age-appropriate consumer assessment. Recommended services and goals are
developed with input from both the consumer and the family. When appropriate,
with parental permission, a representative of the child’s school or special
education co-op may be included as a part of the treatment team.
